Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about heat press machines and sublimation printing
Heat Press Basics
A heat press machine is a device that uses heat and pressure to transfer designs onto various materials like t-shirts, mugs, hats, and more. It's essential for sublimation printing and heat transfer vinyl applications.
We offer clamshell heat presses, swing-away heat presses, mug presses, cap presses, and multi-function combo presses. Each type is designed for specific applications and materials.
For beginners, we recommend a 15x15 inch clamshell heat press. It's affordable, easy to use, and perfect for t-shirts and other flat items. Our starter bundles include everything you need to get started.
How Sublimation Printing Works
Sublimation printing is a process where heat transforms solid ink into gas, which then bonds with polyester fabric or polymer-coated items. The result is vibrant, permanent, full-color designs that won't crack, peel, or fade.
Sublimation works on polyester fabrics, polymer-coated mugs, phone cases, keychains, metal prints, ceramic tiles, and more. The material must be at least 50% polyester or have a special polymer coating.
For most sublimation projects, use 400°F for 60 seconds with medium pressure. However, settings may vary by material. We provide detailed time and temperature charts with every heat press purchase.
Supplies Needed
You'll need a heat press, sublimation printer, sublimation ink, sublimation paper, heat-resistant tape, and sublimation blanks. We offer complete starter kits that include all essential supplies.
Sublimation ink is specially formulated to turn into gas under heat. Sublimation paper is coated to hold the ink and release it during the heat press process. Both are essential for quality transfers.
We carry a wide selection of sublimation blanks including t-shirts, mugs, tumblers, phone cases, keychains, and more. Browse our Sublimation Blanks collection for the latest products.
